Blizzard has been exceptionally silent in general for a long while now. The same goes for the full release of Diablo Immortal, now in alpha, Diablo 4 or Overwatch 2. Like with all Blizzard projects, we currently have no timeline for the Diablo 2 remake’s arrival, which VV has already been working on for some time. A zoom camera has been added, and all of the original game's cinematics will be remastered.
The graphics have been updated, moving from 2D sprites to 3D assets, but can be toggled between the remastered version, and the original graphics via the press of a button. Resurrected is a remaster of both Diablo II and Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. As for how Vicarious Visions is feeling about this, we have no idea, as the developer has not tweeted since the news was first reported in yesterday. Diablo II: Resurrected is a remake of Diablo II.
Though with how hollowed-out Blizzard has seemed to be lately, perhaps this is the emergency blood infusion they need. But I think the main point is that after all the work Vicarious Visions has done for Activision over the years, they deserved better than to be a perma-Blizzard support studio and probably should have been given entire projects and IPs to themselves.
